Quote: Students from India, China, Philippines, and Vietnam can now get faster Visa processing, thanks to Canada’s new student visa program launched by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). It has been observed that Canadian Universities have seen a huge influx in international student enrollments. The four largest Asian markets that send students to study in Canada are India, China, the Philippines, and Vietnam. How did this happen? This is only because of IRCC’s great efforts made for promoting Canada as a choice for students. A program called the Student Partner Program (SPP) was a part of this initiative. Sometime in June 2018, IRCC had made an announcement regarding launching the Student Direct Stream (SDS) program. Now, this new program has replaced the Student Partner Program and it promises to ensure consistency/ efficiency in the visa application process. Hence students from countries mentioned earlier will now benefit from faster visa processing. But to ensure all this, students have to submit upfront proofs of having required funds and required level of English proficiency. Simple.

  1. Faster Visa Processing
  2. Through this new Student Direct Stream (SDS) system, students with the required level of English proficiency and proof of funds will definitely benefit through faster visa processing time. For your information, a study permit under SDS gets processed within 45 days, as against 60 days under regular-stream.
  3. More School / Courses Options : The earlier SPP system used to allow students to apply to only 47 colleges in Canada, which indicated that students had a very limited number of schools/courses to opt for. With the launch of the SDS, students have the option to apply to Canadian colleges as well as universities. Now every college and university with a unique Designated Learning Institution (DLI) number comes directly under the SDS system, thus giving international students more options to choose from.
  4. Lesser Documentation : Students applying through the regular process needed to submit around 8 documents as proof of funds, but now it has been reduced to just 2 documents under this SDS system.
  5. Way to Immigration : Please note importantly that SDS complements the Express Entry System. This is simple words means that students who successfully complete studies in Canada through SDS will be on a faster path to getting permanent residence and citizenship.
