The city of Vernon is the commercial hub of the North Okanagan. Surrounded by suede-like grasslands, and scenic lakes, including the iridescent Kalamalka, the community offers year-round recreation opportunities with an economy fuelled by entrepreneurship, with big Western Canadian companies getting their start here – like Kal Tire and Okanagan Springs. It’s also home to a vibrant creative community, including Kalamalka Press, which has been nurturing Canadian authors since its establishment in 1986. In 2010, MoneySense Magazine ranked Vernon as the third best city in B.C. for both affordability and lifestyle.
